Wash and prepare tomatoes.

Cut tomatoes into 4 to 8 pieces depending on their size.

Chop the onion.

Boil sugar, balsamic vinegar, pepper, thyme, minced garlic, salt, onions, and tomatoes in a pot.

Simmer over low heat for about 30 minutes.
