Cooking Steps
STEP 1/16
Prepare pork belly in half.
STEP 2/16
Heat a frying pan or wok over high heat and grill with whole pork belly.
STEP 3/16
Turn it upside down and cook all six sides.
STEP 4/16
When the surface of pork belly is golden brown, set aside.
STEP 5/16
And clean the pan that grilled pork belly with a kitchen towel.
STEP 6/16
Put 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1/2 cup cooking wine, and 1/2 cup sugar in a pan.
STEP 7/16
Add 1L of water, half a whole onion, large green onion, and 5 bay leaves and boil over high heat.
STEP 8/16
When the sauce boils up, add the grilled pork belly and keep boiling.
STEP 9/16
Boil over high heat for about 20-25 minutes and reduce to medium heat.
STEP 10/16
And if you cook the sauce well until it's all boiled down, you'll get this thick char siu!
STEP 11/16
Take out the meat separately and cool it down, and remove the onions, green onions, and bay leaves that you put together.
STEP 12/16
And after you cut the remaining half of the onion into the right thickness
STEP 13/16
Put the meat in the sauce and boil it.
STEP 14/16
And if you cut the meat into bite-size pieces, char siu is complete!
STEP 15/16
Now, I'm going to make char siu rice. Put rice in a bowl, put boiled onions on the sauce
STEP 16/16
If you put char siu on top, you're done making char siu over rice!
Char siu is a braised dish anyway, so you don't have to add a certain amount. You can think of this amount as 1:1:1 with soy sauce, cooking wine, and sugar.

It's simpler than I thought but it tastes good I'll have to cook it often. Thank you. I added a bit of wasabi on top of the rice.

I chose pork belly that I was going to boil, but it's simple and delicious. I was in a hurry, so I had to cook it over medium heat after 25 minutes, but it was delicious even though I only ate it for 25 minutes. And the onion salad is the best move. Make a lot of onions~^^
